Screen Geek :: What TV Shows Have Been Cancelled?

sad smiley
According to Jim
This show has inexplicably been renewed before, when it seemed over – but this year is truly the end for this Jim Belushi “comedy.”
Dirty Sexy Money
The ratings were down for this show in Season 2, as was the buzz, leading ABC to cancel it last fall. The final episodes will air this summer.
Eli Stone
This quirky ABC series was cancelled last fall. The final episodes will air this summer.
ER
This landmark and long-running series came to an end this spring, with a satisfying group of final episode that included the return of several key cast members.
Everybody Hates Chris
It was the end of the road for the critical favorite, as CW has completely stopped working on comedy series.
The Game
The CW has effectively abandoned comedy series going forward. That included this show.
Harper’s Island
After just a few episodes, this murder mystery – which has struggled in the ratings — was moved to Saturday nights. While always intended as a self-contained 13-episode story, there had initially been talk of using the format in some way for more seasons, but that definitely won’t occur now.
In the Motherhood
Bad ratings and bad reviews were given to this series, causing ABC to pull its short firt season off the air faster than intended.
Kath & Kim
NBC’s hoped for new comedy hit was torn apart by critics and failed to hold the ratings of the rest of Thursday’s comedy lineup on the network. With the hype machine now behind Parks and Recreation, this show has been left in the dust.
King of the Hill
While King has been cancelled before, only to get a reprieve, this looks to truly be the end for the quiet work horse of FOX’s animation lineup – though a few already-produced episodes may air next season.
Kings
The final episodes will air this summer, but from the moment this NBC series debuted to extremely low ratings (despite some great reviews), the writing was on the wall.
Knight Rider
Low ratings + terrible reviews = cancelled show.
Prison Break
With ratings dropping, FOX decided to make this season the final one. A two-hour finale airs in May, followed by a straight-to-DVD movie this summer.
Privileged
Despite being a well-liked show among critics and its small fanbase, Privileged was cancelled. The CW just didn’t have the room for it on their smaller schedule.
Pushing Daisies
While it was beloved by many, the ratings for this expensive series were down in Season 2, leading to its cancellation. ABC will air the final episodes this summer.
Samantha Who
A hit series in its first season, ratings dropped for the Christina Applegate comedy this year. The network attempted to bring the back with a reduced budget, but ultimately terms could not be agreed upon.
The Shield
Shawn Ryan was able to bring his Shakespearean story of corrupt cop Vic Mackey to a satisfying conclusion last fall – even if fans had to wait longer to see the episodes than we would have liked.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Despite a passionate core following, ratings continually dropped for this series. While FOX ultimately gave a surprise renewal to Dollhouse, the show TSCC was most recently paired with, it was unfortunately the end for IGN favorite Terminator.
Trust Me
After a string of hits, TNT failed to find success with this advertising-based drama and cancelled it after one season.
The Unit
Among CBS’s numerous one-hour crime-fighting/procedural series, The Unit was on the lower end of the ratings scale and ultimately was let go.
Without a Trace
It came down to a choice between this show and Cold Case. CBS went with Cold Case.

Geek Tracks :: R.I.P. 1987 – 2009 : Atlanta rapper Dolla is murdered in L.A.

An Atlanta-based rapper was fatally shot in the valet waiting area of the Beverly Center mall Monday by a suspect who fled in a silver Mercedes SUV, according to police. Officers later detained a “person of interest” as he approached the ticketing area at Los Angeles International Airport armed with a gun.

The shooting occurred about 3:10 p.m. in the parking garage of the popular Westside mall, sending diners in nearby restaurants diving for cover.

Dolla, a rapper whose real name is Roderick Anthony Burton II, was shot in the head as he and several other people stood near the center’s La Cienega Boulevard entrance, according to police, witnesses and Dolla’s publicist, Sue Vannasing. A friend of the rapper’s who was at the Beverly Center and a Los Angeles Police Department official also confirmed the victim’s identity to The Times.

Burton, 21, arrived at LAX from Atlanta earlier in the day and went to the Beverly Center to shop, Vannasing said. After the shooting, Burton was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center a few blocks from the mall, where he died, police said.

The LAPD has not announced a motive for the attack or identified any suspects. Detectives are questioning a woman they detained at the scene and a man who allegedly drove from the mall to LAX in a rented silver Mercedes SUV.

Express Your Geek :: R.I.P. 1938 – 2009 : Legendary Black Artist Ernie Barnes Passes Away

Acclaimed artist Ernie Barnes, best known for his unique figurative style of painting and whose work was immortalized on classic television and album covers, died last night, according to reports. He was 70 years old.
According to his official biography, Barnes was born July 15, 1938 to Ernest Sr. and Fannie Mae Geer Barnes during the Jim Crow era in Durham, North Carolina. As a child, young Ernest would accompany her to work and was allowed to peruse the extensive collection of art books. One day in junior high school, a teacher found the self-admitted fat, introverted young Barnes drawing in a notebook while hiding from the bullies who taunted him daily.
For over 40 years, his art has been admired and collected internationally. His national traveling “Beauty of the Ghetto” exhibition in the 1970s featured some of his timeless works as “Storyteller,” “High Aspirations” and “The Graduate.” His famous 1971 “Sugar Shack” dance scene appeared on the “Good Times” television show and on the Marvin Gaye album, “I Want You.”
